The lecture series offers a scientifically sound, generally understandable and varied introduction to Polish society, language, history and culture. On the basis of selected topics, the lecturers provide insights into the Poland of yesterday and today: How can Polish history be told beyond resistance and martyrdom? Did the boom in Polish film end with Wajda, Holland and Polański? How do German theatre-makers communicate their art in Poland? And how does Polish opera come to Germany? Is the Upper Silesian closer to the German or to the Polish? What does Polish diaspora politics mean today?
